<p>GEC Alsthom Large Machines Ltd is part of the GEC
empire. This division manufactures very large electric
motors and generators for use internationally.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><b>Problem</b></p>
<p>GEC Alsthom had developed a new range of devices that
could be built more quickly to the customers
requirements. However the quantity savings available
could not be realised without increasing sales
substantially. But sales were being lost by poor Customer
enquiry management, and due to the slow manual method
used for producing Tender documents, used to respond to
an enquiry.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><b>Solution</b></p>
<p><i>Tailor Made Software </i>wrote a comprehensive
Enquiry Logging and Tender Production program using
Paradox for Windows, for running on their network of PCs.
This enables sales staff to enter customer enquiries
straight onto a networked database. Once all the details
have been collected the Sales Engineer is able to produce
first class customised Tender documents, with some
paragraphs selected automatically, and others selected
manually from a list of standard paragraphs. The program
incorporates the following key features: </p>

<li>An accurate and up to date database of live
enquiries - centralised information that is
available to all.</li>
<li>Tender documents produced easily and quickly,
with far fewer mistakes</li>
<li>Sales Staff are no longer dependent upon
secretarial availability when producing Tenders..</li>
<li>All Tenders are guaranteed to conform to the
Company Standard.</li>
<li>The program has provision for automatically
faxing the Tender straight from the PC.</li>
<li>The high quality Tender is vastly superior to the
previous hand typed copies</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Result</b></p>
<p>Installing the system has reduced in the delay in
responding to customer enquiries from weeks, to hours.
Combined with the Tender's improved quality this has
substantially improved sales.</p>
