Born in Cape Town=2C South Africa=2C Enzo Roff lives and works in the Unit=
ed Kingdom and is currently based in Warwickshire. He trained at the Londo=
n Academy of Music and Dramatic Art as a Lighting Designer and extends the=
knowledge gained from this training to his art practice. He is known for=
his moving still life video works in ultra-high resolution=2C which combi=
ne careful observation and framing with opulent compositions to produce a=
subtle yet dramatic trompe l=E2=80=99oeil effect. This effect is a recurr=
ing motif throughout Roff's body of work.

The Waiting collection is a series of ten moving image works=2C each of wh=
ich is created to seamlessly and continuously loop.
The collection was largely inspired by the works of the Danish Modernism a=
nd Expressionism movement=2C in particular the work of Carl Hols=C3=B8e an=
d Vilhelm Hammersh=C3=B8i.
Although Hols=C3=B8e has now become largely overshadowed by Hammersh=C3=B8=
i=2C Roff has paid homage to his work in particular. Hols=C3=B8e=E2=80=99s=
Danish style of angularity=2C the way his treatment of subjects makes the=
m look natural=2C and his use of colour inspired Roff to explore how Hols=
=C3=B8e work could evolve with the added dimension of time=2C adding a gen=
tle movement to the narrative.

The Fractions of Time Collection presents Enzo Roff=E2=80=99s ongoing expl=
oration of the video still life. Inspired by the work of old masters and v=
ersed in contemporary moving image techniques=2C Roff investigates and rev=
eals the point at which stillness becomes movement. Traditional still life=
paintings often include animals=2C flowing water or the effect of wind on=
fabric=2C but their movement can only be hinted at=2C never realised. Rof=
f=E2=80=99s compositions teeter at the edge of=2C then cross=2C this thres=
hold=2C drawing emphasis simultaneously to the complexity of motion and to=
the patterns and forms which exist often unnoticed in a landscape.

e works=2C each of which is created to seamlessly and continuously loop.</=

Modernism and Expressionism movement=2C in particular the work of Carl Ho=

:0;">Although Hols=C3=B8e has now become largely overshadowed by Hammersh=
=C3=B8i=2C Roff has paid homage to his work in particular. Hols=C3=B8e=E2=

kes them look natural=2C and his use of colour inspired Roff to explore ho=
w Hols=C3=B8e work could evolve with the added dimension of time=2C adding=
a gentle movement to the narrative.</p>

=99s ongoing exploration of the video still life. Inspired by the work of=
old masters and versed in contemporary moving image techniques=2C Roff in=
vestigates and reveals the point at which stillness becomes movement. Trad=
itional still life paintings often include animals=2C flowing water or the=
effect of wind on fabric=2C but their movement can only be hinted at=2C n=
ever realised. Roff=E2=80=99s compositions teeter at the edge of=2C then c=
ross=2C this threshold=2C drawing emphasis simultaneously to the complexit=
y of motion and to the patterns and forms which exist often unnoticed in a=
