Going Nowhere is a video and performance artwork by Emma Elliott. The work=
is an homage to the plight of rhinoceroses and elephants who are being br=
utalised and marched into extinction for their tusks and horns.
In this video Elliott plays the Rhino and the human simultaneously=2C meta=
phorically linking the human to our fellow animal. The video emphasises th=
at symbiotically=2C what harms the Rhinoceros also harms the human=2C as w=
e share the same planet. Human empathy towards the plight of our fellow an=
imal is the theme.
The head piece in this video was cast from Emma=E2=80=99s award winning ma=
rble sculpture Wry?No! that discusses the fallacy that Rhinoceros horn can=
cure common ailments in traditional medicines=2C and attacks the machismo=
attitude of the hunters. The piece was filmed in the hills around the hig=
hest town in Somerset=2C in November 2020.

Emma Elliott is a British artist whose central concerns are the incongruou=
s and hypocritical aspects of humanity and our connections with history an=
d animality. Working primarily across sculpture and painting=2C she explor=
es the relationships between the refined and the primitive=2C the physical=
and the spiritual. She examines the human condition from up close and afa=
r=2C honing in on minute anatomical and psychological details and broadly=
surveying the influences of our collective past on present behaviour=2C o=
ften in the same piece.
