ctly what Toast Ale does as part of its mission to combat food waste in th=
e UK.
According to the latest statistics=2C around 44% of bread produced in the=
UK is never eaten. We waste almost 24 million slices every day.
Toast =E2=80=93 led by quirkily-titled Chief Toaster Rob Wilson =E2=80=93=
is one of the businesses trying to cut those figures.
Rob spoke at our recent MeetUp event around leading a start-up with purpos=
e. We caught up with him to talk about working in social enterprises and t=
he challenges of running one.
He said:
=E2=80=9COne of our bigger challenges has been internal. We want to ensure=
we build the same internal culture and values as we portray externally. W=
e haven=E2=80=99t always gotten this right. As a mission-driven business=
=2C we attract people and talent easily. They are motivated by the impact=
and purpose of the organisation.
=E2=80=9CBut it makes for an unusual challenge. We could risk burnout as p=
eople want to work all the hours. We=E2=80=99ve needed to work quite hard=
