We wanted to let you know that=2C notwithstanding the challenges of the Co=
vid-19 situation=2C Seedrs will continue to operate business as usual. Our=
staff are now working from home=2C and we are fortunate that=2C as an onl=
ine business=2C they are able to do so with very minimal disruption. Inves=
tors and entrepreneurs will continue to receive the same high level of car=
e and customer support as normal throughout this period.
We know that many entrepreneurs will want to understand whether investment=
is likely to slow down on the platform. Our expectation is that investmen=
t activity will remain robust. Since our inception in the midst of the las=
t financial crisis=2C we have been prepared for a downturn=2C and we expec=
t one like this to create competing forces. Given the long-term and relati=
vely uncorrelated nature of our asset class=2C many investors may see this=
period as an optimal time to deploy funds into growing private companies=
=2C especially where valuations are reasonable. At the same time=2C other=
investors are likely to step back from investing altogether and choose to=
hold their current positions and cash during this period. It is difficult=
to know what the balance will be between these two forces=2C but in gener=
al we expect the platform to remain highly active. If you have been consid=
ering raising capital with us=2C or you are a portfolio company that may n=
eed to raise additional capital during this period=2C we are
here to support you=2C and we will do all that we can to ensure you receiv=
e the funding you need.
Meanwhile=2C we know that many investors will want to understand what the=
impact of the current situation will be on their portfolio. Again=2C we e=
xpect to see competing forces which will disproportionately benefit some c=
ompanies and harm others. We are already hearing stories of portfolio comp=
anies receiving record levels of orders as customers prepare for the comin=
g weeks and months. But we know that other businesses will see their trade=
drop significantly=2C and some may experience significant cash challenges=
=2E We would ask investors to be patient with those companies during this pe=
riod=2C and to the extent that some of them come onto the platform to rais=
e additional capital to see this downturn through=2C we hope you will give=
strong consideration to investing in them and supporting their journey ba=
ck to growth.
