That’s what twins Joyce and Raissa De Haas do, after launching their Double
Dutch drinks business.
The duo scooped up one of our Virgin Foodpreneur awards back in 2015 and
have gone from strength to strength ever since. The 28-year-olds have now
been named in the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 list, which recognises the
brightest young entrepreneurial talents across the globe.
After quitting their banking jobs and moving to the UK to study in their
early 20s, they set up Double Dutch

– producing and selling premium spirit mixers.
They’ve been working with Virgin StartUp ever since. We caught up with them
this month to chat about all things entrepreneurial, including working with
family, riding the ups and downs, the effect of Brexit and taking on a
male-dominated industry.
Raissa said:
“I think it’s important to try and use being a minority to our advantage,
especially in an industry where branding is so important. I don’t think it’s
ever held us back really. However, there are certainly the stereotypes and
preconceived opinions, potentially around how serious we are. It shouldn’t
be any different for women or men.”
