Machines For Thinking is a series of short animations by Claudia Hart. Bor=
rowing the compositional strategies of the paintings in the collection of=
the Art Institute of Chicago where she teaches=2C with Machines For Think=
ing Hart has created animated images-within-images=2C as simulated archite=
ctures open onto framed paintings that open onto simulated landscapes and=
rooms bestowed with animated paintings. The works in the series are digit=
al pictorial-clockworks in which wheels-within-wheels turn at different ra=
tes and temporal schemes to animate worlds that are uncanny and mesmerizin=
g.

ns by Claudia Hart. Borrowing the compositional strategies of the painting=
s in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago where she teaches=2C w=
ith <em>Machines For Thinking</em> Hart has created animated images-within=
-images=2C as simulated architectures open onto framed paintings that open=
onto simulated landscapes and rooms bestowed with animated paintings. The=
works in the series are digital pictorial-clockworks in which wheels-with=
in-wheels turn at different rates and temporal schemes to animate worlds t=
hat are uncanny and mesmerizing.</p>
