Uncouth Forest is a collection of eight video pieces by Enzo Roff.
The collection explores what remains of Shakespeare=E2=80=99s beloved Fore=
st of Arden. Originally covering most of North Warwickshire=2C Shakespeare=
as born and lived a short distance from the outskirts of the forest. He u=
ses it in many of his works to depict intrigue=2C magic=2C mischief and il=
lusion.
Enzo Roff returned to the forest throughout 2020 to capture the changing l=
ight and colours during the seasons and at different times of day. Roff de=
grades and rebuilds his images over and over to achieve an almost impressi=
onistic painted appearance of blocks of colour with confident=2C sweeping=
brushstrokes.
As with all Roff=E2=80=99s work=2C every sequence loops seamlessly to crea=
te a constant=2C endless cycle.

Born in Cape Town=2C South Africa=2C Enzo Roff lives and works in the Unit=
ed Kingdom and is currently based in Warwickshire. He trained at the Londo=
n Academy of Music and Dramatic Art as a Lighting Designer and extends the=
knowledge gained from this training to his art practice. He is known for=
his moving still life video works in ultra-high resolution=2C which combi=
ne careful observation and framing with opulent compositions to produce a=
subtle yet dramatic trompe l=E2=80=99oeil effect. This effect is a recurr=
ing motif throughout Roff's body of work.

The Waiting collection is a series of ten moving image works=2C each of wh=
ich is created to seamlessly and continuously loop.
The collection was largely inspired by the works of the Danish Modernism a=
nd Expressionism movement=2C in particular the work of Carl Hols=C3=B8e an=
d Vilhelm Hammersh=C3=B8i.
Although Hols=C3=B8e has now become largely overshadowed by Hammersh=C3=B8=
i=2C Roff has paid homage to his work in particular. Hols=C3=B8e=E2=80=99s=
Danish style of angularity=2C the way his treatment of subjects makes the=
m look natural=2C and his use of colour inspired Roff to explore how Hols=
=C3=B8e work could evolve with the added dimension of time=2C adding a gen=
tle movement to the narrative.

kes them look natural=2C and his use of colour inspired Roff to explore ho=
w Hols=C3=B8e work could evolve with the added dimension of time=2C adding=
a gentle movement to the narrative.
