Serving Up Support at Helping Hands




Eight of the TFS team had a busy evening taking over the soup kitchen at 
Helping Hands Community Project

Helping Hands is a fantastic charity dedicated to supporting those facing 
homelessness, poverty and hardship. Their daily soup kitchens feed up to 50 
people, and the second time the TFS team took over for a night.




The team cooked up chicken hot pot and meat-free hot pot accompanied by 
fresh bread as well as apple crumble and custard for dessert. The team 
served the meals to Helping Hands clients and did the cleaning up!! Well 
done team!

A Very Special Visitor from Pawprints Dog Rescue




We were delighted to host Natalie from Pawprints Dog Rescue

, along with the wonderful Choccie-Bear, who quickly became the most popular 
guest in the building. Natalie talked about the incredible work Pawprints 
does rescuing homeless dogs who might otherwise face being put down.




Choccie-Bear, a beautiful Akita, was found wandering the streets in 
Gloucester before being rescued. Thankfully his story has taken a much 
happier turn. He was calm, friendly and clearly very happy making the rounds 
saying hello to everyone in the office. Our Leamington Spa office is excited 
to be supporting Pawprints this year.

and will soon be taking on an incredible challenge - trekking to Mera Peak - 
while raising funds for Pawprints.




Mera Peak is the highest trekking peak in Nepal at 6461m, and the team will 
be trekking over 8 days covering 80km (50 miles) to reach the peak. They 
will then trek back to Lukla in 3 very long days, over a more direct route 
of 60km (38 miles). The cumulative ascent will be 4.3 miles!

Neurodiversity in the Workplace: An Employment Law Perspective

, held each March, is an opportunity for employers to focus on the strengths 
of neurodivergent employees and to review whether their workplace practices 
truly support an inclusive environment. Conditions commonly included within 
neurodiversity are autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette’s syndrome 
and others. For employers, this is not just a cultural or wellbeing 
initiative but an area with clear legal obligations.




Why neurodiversity matters for employers

Creating a neuro‑inclusive workplace can improve staff retention, 
innovation, problem‑solving and overall organisational performance. It also 
helps reduce legal risk. Employees who feel unable to raise concerns or 
request adjustments often disengage, which in turn increases grievances, 
sickness absence and, for some employers, litigation.




Key legal framework

From an Employment Law perspective, the Equality Act 2010 (“EqA”) is 
central.

*	Many neurodivergent conditions can amount to a Disability under Section 6 
EqA if they have a substantial and long‑term impact on day‑to‑day 
activities.
*	Where an employee meets the definition of Disability, employers must 
consider and implement reasonable adjustments to remove or reduce 
disadvantage.
*	Failure to make reasonable adjustments is one of the most common claims 
linked to neurodiversity.
*	Employees are also protected from Discrimination, Harassment and 
Victimisation.




Importantly, an employer’s duty arises where it knew or ought reasonably to 
have known of the disability. Neurodivergent employees do not always feel 
comfortable disclosing their diagnosis, so employers should encourage open 
conversations and make clear how the information will be used and protected.




Reasonable adjustments

Adjustments will vary depending on the individual, but practical examples 
include:

*	Quiet working areas or noise‑cancelling equipment.
*	Clear written instructions, structured workflows or access to assistive 
software.
*	Flexibility in working hours or communication methods.
*	Adapting performance management processes, particularly where criteria 
disadvantage neurodivergent employees.

The test is what is reasonable in the circumstances. The employer’s size, 
resources, and the effectiveness of the adjustment are all relevant.




Recruitment and promotion

Inclusive recruitment is important and common risk areas include overly 
rigid job specifications and reliance on “traditional” interview formats, 
which can disproportionately disadvantage some neurodivergent candidates. 
Employers should consider:

*	Providing interview questions in advance.
*	Offering an alternative assessment route.
*	Ensuring competency‑based scoring is applied consistently.

These measures can demonstrate proactive compliance and reduce risk of 
indirect discrimination claims.




Creating a sustainable, inclusive culture

Legal compliance alone is not enough. Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a 
timely reminder to review internal policies, manager training and workplace 
culture. Helpful steps include:

*	Updating equal opportunities, recruitment and performance management 
policies to reflect neuro‑inclusive practices.
*	Training managers on recognising when reasonable adjustments may be 
required.
*	Normalising discussion around different working styles.
*	Reviewing sickness and capability procedures to ensure flexibility where 
disability is a factor.




What employers should do next

*	Audit existing policies and procedures to ensure they align with the EqA 
duties.
*	Review reasonable adjustment processes for speed and clarity.
*	Engage with staff networks or create forums for neurodivergent employees 
to share feedback.
*	Use Neurodiversity Celebration Week as a platform for awareness training 
or communication campaigns.

Hands is a fantastic charity dedicated to supporting those facing =
homelessness, poverty and hardship. Their daily soup kitchens feed up to =
50 people, and the second time the TFS team took over for a night.</p>
