This is an official email from Companies House, sent to all registered email
addresses. The information in this email is relevant to all companies
registered in the UK. If you’re a third-party agent who has received this
email on behalf of a company, please forward this message to the company
director(s) of all companies you work with.

  _____

This email contains helpful information about identity verification for
Companies House.

You may not need to take action yet, but we recommend saving this email for
future reference. It includes helpful guidance to support you when verifying
your identity or using your personal code for company filings.

If your company’s confirmation statement is due soon, make sure all
directors have verified their identity and have their personal codes. You’ll
get another email from us before your filing deadline to help you prepare.

  _____

Understanding the 2-step process

Identity verification is a 2-step process:

1.Verify
your identity and receive your Companies House personal code. This code is
unique to you and should be kept safe.

2.Link
your verified identity to each company role you hold by providing your
personal code for each role. If you’re a director or person with significant
control (PSC) for more than one company, you will have to do this multiple
times for your different roles.

If you’ve already verified your identity for Companies House, you do not
need to do it again but you’ll need to complete step 2 at the appropriate
time for each role you hold.

To see when you need to complete step 2, go to the Companies House register
<https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk> , search for
the company and then click on the ‘People’ tab to view the verification
status for each officer.

Read more about verifying your identity for Companies House
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verifying-your-identity-for-companies-house> .

Identity verification requirements for limited partnerships, corporate
directors of companies, corporate members of limited liability partnerships
(LLPs), and officers of corporate PSCs, will be introduced at a later date.

Secretaries are not required to verify their identities.

  _____

Where to find your personal code

If you verified using GOV.UK One Login

Sign in to Companies House
<https://identity.company-information.service.gov.uk/identity-verification/direct/has-identity-been-verified>
and go to ‘Manage account’ to view your code. You’ll need to sign in using
the same email address you used when you verified.

If you complete your verification with GOV.UK One Login at a Post Office,
you’ll receive an email from GOV.UK with the result of your identity check,
usually within one day. You’ll then be able to view your personal code in
your Companies House account in the ‘Manage account’ tab.

If you verified using an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)

We sent your personal code to the email address they provided for you.

If you did not receive your code, contact the ACSP who verified you and
check what email address they used.

You’ll need to ask them to contact us if they provided an incorrect email
address.

Read guidance on GOV.UK about personal codes for identity verification
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/companies-house-personal-codes-for-identity-verification>
.

  _____

Check your details

Make sure your personal information, especially your date of birth, matches
what is held on the Companies House register. If the date of birth on your
identity documents (used in step 1 of the process) does not match the date
of birth on the register, you will not be able to complete step 2 – linking
your verified identity to your company role(s).

You can:

*	check your company information
<https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/>
*	update company details
<https://www.gov.uk/file-changes-to-a-company-with-companies-house>

For some updates (for example, corrections to incorporation documents), you’ll
need to use a paper form.

If you update any company details, allow time for the changes to be
processed before providing your personal code on your confirmation statement
or using the Provide identity verification details for a person with
significant control (PSC)
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/provide-psc-verification>  service.

  _____

How to prove your identity for Companies House at the Post Office

You can complete your identity verification in person at a Post Office, once
you’ve entered your photo ID details online.

Read guidance on GOV.UK about how to complete identity verification in
person at a Post Office
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-prove-your-identity-for-companies-house-at-the-post-office>
.

  _____

If you need more help with identity verification

We’ve published a list of top tips to help you complete identity
verification

. Please check these before contacting us.

  _____

If you’re filing accounts this December

December is a busy time and many companies are due to file their accounts
with Companies House before the end of the month.

Search for your company on the Companies House register
<https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/>  to check your
filing due dates.

If you’re due to file accounts, use our online services
<https://www.gov.uk/file-your-company-annual-accounts>  where possible and
allow plenty of time before your deadline.

You will not need a Companies House personal code to file accounts.
