Assess your fit for Grant Funding
The current market is also more targeted than many businesses realise.
Innovate UK paused Smart Grants from January 2025 while reshaping support,
so businesses are increasingly competing through themed or challenge-led
routes instead. Current examples include programmes such as Knowledge
Transfer Partnerships, Robotics Adoption Hubs, Semiconductors and Components
for Smart Electronic Platforms, Drive35 Demonstration projects, Frontier AI,
and Contracts for Innovation competitions which means the key question is no
longer just “is grant funding available?” but “is this specific project a
strong fit for a live or upcoming call?”
The strongest opportunities tend to come from businesses that can show a
credible innovation case and a credible commercial case.
For businesses already benefitting from grants or previous competitions, the
missed opportunity is often not the absence of funding — it is the absence
of a clear forward plan:
* which future competitions are relevant
* which projects are actually fundable
* how to improve the positioning of the next application
* whether the business is applying too late, to the wrong competition, or
with the wrong narrative
For businesses not yet benefitting, the barrier is often simpler:
* they do not know what is out there
* they are unsure whether their project is competitive
* they are worried the process will take too much time
* they have previously dismissed grants as unrealistic
That is why an early suitability review matters.
Not every project is right for grant funding.
But when a project is a good fit, the impact can be significant:
* reduced risk on innovation spend
* improved ability to move faster
* more confidence to hire, test, and develop
* stronger momentum into commercialisation
The current funding environment rewards businesses that are selective,
well-prepared, and realistic.

* Is this the right time, right fund, and right story?

Work Programme includes grants below €2.5 million and investments from €0.5
million to €10 million.
