Ok Gordon I will try and keep you in the loop as much as I can. Its all new
to us at the moment also and goalposts are changing daily.
Just for reference Thwaites have paid 38 hours for last week so you will
have full pay this week.
For next week. Thwaites are paying you from week 17 hours. We could use your
holiday fund money next week to top your salary up then when the government
scheme backpays any furlough we can top your holiday fund back up out of it.
That gives us at least 2 - 3 weeks breathing space. Hopefully by then we
will have a little more support.

Howard,
We have been contacted by Thwaites regarding your employment. Initially they
had decided as a company to close down the factory for a period of three
weeks with full pay. They have now decided due to operational needs to
furlough all of their workers.
Furlough generally is a period of time off paid / unpaid but still retained
by the company.
As you are aware these are unusually hard times for all of us but after the
situation has calmed and things get back to normal they would like you to
return. At present we do not know when that will be.
As you may have heard in the news, the UK Government has introduced a
Coronavirus Job Protection Scheme, which is set up to help protect both
individuals and businesses against the economic downturn the pandemic has
caused. You may be wondering what this means for you. Thwaites has taken
the decision to put you on this until further notice.
These guidelines are changing daily and at present we may be able to get 80%
of your salary through the government portal / job protection scheme. This
will not come into effect until the end of April / start of May at the
earliest and can be backdated to the 1st April 2020.
If you can let us know that you wish to take advantage of this can you
please reply to this email or contact me on 01926 450545
For further advice on Furlough schemes please refer to government websites
and guidelines.
I know that these are difficult times for everybody but hopefully we will
come out of this all at the end. We will keep you up to date as the
