Your original tax dates were out from 23 due to the days that you originally
wanted payments in 2023. As when you first started because of your payments
not falling in line you would have been paid twice in the same month hence
missing months payment but this would have been adjusted the next month to
compensate and sent to HMRC through RTI so they would have had all correct
I had to p45 you and

Subject: NI query for tax year 2023/2024
Hi Bob,
hope you are well.
I recently reviewed my National Insurance record on the HMRC website and for
the tax year 2023/2024 it show I have an incomplete year (ie have not paid
enough NI for the year to count towards my state pension).
So I've been investigating and I think there might be something wrong with
the records .
I've dug out my pay slips from tax period 1 2023 onwards. Looking at each
payslip my YTD NI goes as follows:
tax period process date YTD NI
1 5th May 23 245.76
2 2nd June 23 673.06
3 seem to skip tax period 3 - see later note as I think
this is the key
4 7th July 23 1131.32
5 8th Aug 1548.30
6 8th Sept 2006.56
7 6th Oct 2444.18
8 6th Nov 2871.48
9 7th Dec 3324.58
10 missing from my records (if you could resend the email
from back then if you have it hat would be appreciated - no idea why I
didn't print it)
11 9th Feb 2024 4133.52
12 8th Mar 2024 4504.71
Then I have another tax period 12
12 5th April 2024 360.35
After this my payslip process dated 3rd May is tax period 1 of the new tax
year - which seems right again
On my P60 and in the HMRC records it shows I only paid 360.35 in NI for the
tax year 2023/2024.......which is wrong I believe
My guess is that for some reason tax period 3 was missed and tax period 4
was put on the payslip/in the system in error for 7th July process date. As
a result all months were wrong after that and I end up with 2 tax period 12s
and the 2nd one over wrote the correct data for YTD.
Before I call the HMRC is there anything you can do/need to do your end to
correct this?
Can you provide the payslip for January 2024 - sorry I know you will have
sent it me and I thought I'd printed them all.
regards Sam
