Hi Bob,

A while back we shared a video using Nims Purja as an example of leadership=
, and what it takes to keep going when conditions are against you. The news=
 of his death in an avalanche this week is a hard one to read, and I'm not =
going to try and turn it into a tidy business lesson. That would feel wrong=
.

But it's the kind of news that makes you stop and think about time, about c=
ourage, and about the work we keep putting off because we assume there will=
 be a better week for it. There usually isn't. That's the only thread I wan=
t to pull on this week.

Tip:

Stop waiting for perfect conditions

Most business owners delay the important work because the timing never feel=
s right. The team is busy, cash is tight, clients need attention, someone i=
s off, the market feels uncertain, the diary is full. All true, and none of=
 it changes the fact that leadership rarely happens in perfect conditions.

The job is to decide what matters and act while things are still imperfect.=
 Have the conversation. Set the standard. Make the decision.

Fix the thing that keeps draining you.

Tell people where the business is going.

Stop tolerating behaviour you already know is wrong. If something has been =
on your mind for months, it probably isn't going away by itself.

The "one day" list

Take ten minutes this week and write down everything you keep putting into =
the "one day" pile.

One day we'll sort the team structure.

One day we'll get clearer on the numbers.

One day we'll deal with that customer.

One day we'll stop relying on me.

Then ask three questions: what is this already costing us, what happens if =
nothing changes by Christmas, and what is the smallest proper action I can =
take this week.

Not a gesture or a bit of admin to feel better about it, but something real=
: a conversation booked, a decision made, a standard written down, a number=
 reviewed, a responsibility moved. Small, but real.

If you saw the video when we first shared it, it may be worth another watch=
, not as a motivational clip but as a leadership prompt.

The useful question isn't "could I do what he did?" Most of us couldn't. Th=
e better one is where you're asking for a bigger result without becoming th=
e person who can lead it.

A bigger business needs a stronger owner. Not a louder one or a busier one,=
 a clearer one: someone who makes decisions earlier, holds standards proper=
ly, develops people, communicates direction, and enables the team to deal w=
ith reality instead of working around it.

You become the standard before the business follows

People often want the business to change first, and then they'll become mor=
e strategic, stop firefighting, lead differently.

I think it works the other way round. You start behaving like the owner the=
 business needs before the business has caught up: clearer before the team =
is clear, more disciplined before things feel calm, more honest about what =
isn't working before anyone else is comfortable saying it.

That's not easy, but waiting has a cost too. So this week, don't try to tra=
nsform everything. Just pick one thing you already know matters, and stop t=
reating it like it can wait forever.
