Monthly Report - April
Good afternoon,
We have had our first runners of the flat season in what is set to be our
busiest yet.
We have got a horse set to run on Sunday on ITV Racing, we have also got an
exciting entry for a Listed race at York in hope to pick up some valuable
blacktype! This year we are striving to raise the bar with our horses, we
have got a very nice roster heading into the season and we aim to be
competing at the very top level. We have got plans for York, Royal Ascot and
Derby Day so far, planning to have runners at all of them meetings!
The season is truly here now and operations at the yard have been non-stop.
Seb’s horses are just starting to come into their own, he has got some very
exciting horses this year and we speak about the horses to watch out for in
the yard this season!
A busy start to the season for The Croc
Crocodile Power started his season off on a very positive note when
finishing a nice 3rd at Catterick. He ran again on Wednesday, running a
slightly below par race. On Wednesday he didn’t get an easy time of things
in front before fading away in the final furlong, the ground was also a
touch on the fast side for him. He looks incredible at the moment and once
we get a bit of rain he will be right there once again. We would love to try
him at Ripon, his brother, Mark’s Choice, is a specialist around Ripon,
winning there 9 times, being the track’s most successful horse.
Crocodile Power enjoys the undulations of Catterick, he may enjoy them at
Ripon also.
Overall he’s in rude health in himself, the ground was also a little too
fast on Wednesday and it was over a furlong further than ideal. We have no
doubts he’ll be in the winner’s enclosure very soon.
Shares are now available in Crocodile Power, if you’d like to get involved
in a horse who’ll be a regular runner and very competitive, he’ll definitely
give you plenty of fun.

Top hat’s at the ready
Frio’s work has been outstanding. He was pencilled in to run tomorrow at
Doncaster, but we have decided not to go forward with it. We put a heart
rate monitor on him last weekend, this is something we do when we know a
horse is nearly ready to run, just to give us a better guide on their
fitness and how long it takes for them to get back to their resting heart
rate. The monitor suggests he was a week or two short of training before
being 100% ready.
Looking at Doncaster entries, I think he would have got off to a winning
start, but we want him to have the best chance possible on his seasonal
debut. With no disrespect to any of our other horses, if this wasn’t Frio we
would have ran him, as the run would do him well and he’d improve for it,
but as we are hoping for a win first time out we don’t want to cut any
corners with him.
We have got some races in store for him, it’s possible he could go to
Hamilton on the 3rd of May for a novice event, there is a race at Doncaster
on the 16th which would be a penalty kick for him. We also have a Listed
race at York on the 14th of May in mind, this is the Westow Stakes for
three-year-olds only over five furlongs. Obviously after this we will be
setting our full focus on Royal Ascot, but in the meantime it’s important to
focus on what’s in front of us.
Minimal shares are still available in him, when he runs its highly likely
the shares will no longer be available to purchase. If you’d like to be
involved at the top level, this is your best chance.

Dreaming of Derby day
Archduke Ferdinand is declared to run at Musselburgh on Sunday, he ran there
a few weeks ago, running well in the Scottish Sprint Cup, when he was asked
to challenge the door was closed on him and it was game over from there. He’s
come out of that race exceptionally well, he did a very nice piece of work
last week, he may be a decent price on Sunday and I wouldn’t be afraid of
having a bit each way on him. The prize money on Sunday is brilliant, being
a Sky Bet Sunday Series race we are hoping to pick some up for his owners!
We had a race at Goodwood in mind a week on Friday, but the time in between
races isn’t enough for him, with travel and the race itself it’s only fair
on the horse to go to one. Musselburgh will be a weaker race, and the money
is better. After Musselburgh we are planning on taking him to Ascot on the
9th of May, then after Ascot he will be getting an entry for the 6 furlong
handicap on Epsom Derby Day!

The naughty horse…
Sir Bobby had his stalls test on Wednesday and on Thursday I had to write
the dreaded news that he had unfortunately failed the test. We have had him
go through the gates at home at least 100 times, with no issues at home we
thought that it was a one-off at Newcastle and he would have been okay.
Unfortunately he completely refused and wasn’t willing to go forward. This
shocked us all, after the amount of times we’ve seen him load into the gates
for him to refuse blew all of our minds.
We have got one more chance with him before he is banned for six months, we
can take another test in two weeks in what we must pass. In the meantime he
is being visited by Gary & Craig Witheford. The Witheford’s are probably the
best horsemen in the country, if not the world. They are known as modern-day
horse whisperers and they just seem to have the key to sorting naughty
horses out.
Apart from the obvious, his training has been very good recently and once he
passes the second test we will hopefully have a nice end to the spring with
him, with the summer months ahead.

Living the Dream in retirement
Desert Dream is very happy in his retirement, he is turned out every day and
is currently lapping up the fresh Yorkshire air along side his best friend
Wotalaad. They get on like a house on fire and are a pair of horses who have
got lovely mindsets, unfortunately Wotalaad couldn’t have the career which
Desert Dream had but they are both in the very best of care.
We have had a lady visit him from the local village who is interested in
riding him as a hacker (just general riding around). She is coming to see
him again in the next few weeks for a test ride here at The Grange. We are
in no rush to move him on and once he does leave us he will be having a
five-star forever home.

The big horse
Wotalaad is currently with us at Cottam Grange turned out with his best
friend Desert Dream.
He is with us at Cottam Grange due to the issues he has been picking up in
training, he’s not lame in the slightest right now but when he’s given hard
work he just seems to pick up small problems, not moving fluently, we are
scared to death of over doing him and picking up a bad injury.
As a horse he is a cracker, he’s big, strong and has a gigantic stride, he
just doesn’t have the speed or soundness for it, truthfully I think we are
at the end of the road for Wotalaad’s racing career. An official statement
will be released soon.

Our homebred filly will be making her debut this spring!
Miss Unexpected has been working well with Declan Carroll, things are
warming up with Declan as he has got Lifeplan heading to the 2000 Guineas in
the next few weeks, the 3-year-old milers division looks scarcely wide open
and it would be special to have a local winner! We are looking towards the
end of spring before Miss Unexpected will be ready to make her debut, she is
a very leggy filly who’s needed some time to catch up with herself.
Declan Carroll - “Miss Unexpected is a quick learner, but she’s not ready to
run yet. We haven’t rushed her because she’s a leggy type, she’s done
everything right so far and she’ll be out for the syndicate towards the end
of spring”.

Our 2-year-old has been named!
The Bated Breath colt has been named, he is officially called Velvet
Assassin!
His owners put the name suggestions forward and Velvet Assassin was the one
who won the vote! He is doing everything right in his training, it’s looking
like towards the end of spring which is when he will be ready to make his
debut!
Since we acquired him his brother and his sister have both gone on to win
races, Velvet Assassin a very good-looking horse and we will be happy if he
can follow in their footsteps and follow suit as a winner.

Horses to follow & round up of what’s to come
Over the past couple of years Seb’s yard has undergone major work, his new
state of the art facilities have attracted more owners and evidentially a
higher class of horse. Desert Dream was Seb’s first winner when he only had
three horses in training, with forty stables and planning for sixty more the
yard is truly unrecognizable. His top three horses to follow this year are
Sottsfield, Night Wolf and Frio.
Sottsfield is the dark horse out of these three. He’s only ran the once
finishing 8th of 12 on debut, but there is a lot more to come. Once stepped
up in trip and with some soft ground this son of the Arc winning Sottsass
could challenge for some very nice three year old staying handicaps later on
in the season.
Night Wolf is a very exciting type, he’s entered to run next week at
Pontefract. He was 4th in the convivial maiden at York on debut before
having excuses at Redcar on his second race. There would be no surprise to
see this horse perform at pattern level over middle distances.
Frio doesn’t need any explanation, his debut form already puts him at group
class. He will be racing in the next couple of weeks and this sprinter
expected to take us all to the very top level this year.
Looking forward we have got a very busy May and June on the horizon. We will
be having entries at the York Dante Meeting, the Epsom Derby Meeting and
Royal Ascot. It’s an exciting time of year, I personally can’t wait for Frio
to run and we are quietly confident about Archduke Ferdinand’s chances on
Sunday.

raise the bar with our horses, we have got a very nice roster heading =
into the season and we aim to be competing at the very top level. We =
have got plans for <strong>York</strong>, <strong>Royal Ascot</strong> =
and <strong>Derby Day</strong> so far, planning to have runners at all =
of them meetings!<br>

the final furlong, the ground was also a touch on the fast side for him. =
He looks incredible at the moment and once we get a bit of rain he will =
be right there once again. We would love to try him at =

<strong>Seb=E2=80=99s</strong> yard has undergone major work, his new =
state of the art facilities have attracted more owners and evidentially =
a higher class of horse. <strong>Desert Dream</strong> was =
<strong>Seb=E2=80=99s</strong> first winner when he only had three =
horses in training, with forty stables and planning for sixty more the =
yard is truly unrecognizable. His top three horses to follow this =
year are <strong>Sottsfield</strong>, <strong>Night Wolf</strong> and =
<strong>Frio</strong>. <br>
<br>
<strong>Sottsfield </strong>is the dark horse out of these =
three. He=E2=80=99s only ran the once finishing 8th of 12 on debut, =
but there is a lot more to come. Once stepped up in trip and =
with some soft ground this son of the Arc winning Sottsass could =
challenge for some very nice three year old staying handicaps later on =
in the season.<br>
<br>
<strong>Night Wolf </strong>is a very exciting type, he=E2=80=99s =
entered to run next week at Pontefract. He was 4th in the convivial =
maiden at York on debut before having excuses at Redcar on his second =
race. There would be no surprise to see this horse perform at pattern =
level over middle distances.<br>
<br>
<strong>Frio </strong>doesn=E2=80=99t need any explanation, his =
debut form already puts him at group class. He will be racing in the =
next couple of weeks and this sprinter expected to take us all to =
the very top level this year.<br>
<br>
Looking forward we have got a very busy May and June on the horizon. We =
will be having entries at the <strong>York Dante</strong> Meeting, the =
<strong>Epsom Derby</strong> Meeting and <strong>Royal Ascot</strong>. =
It=E2=80=99s an exciting time of year, I personally can=E2=80=99t wait =
for <strong>Frio</strong> to run and we are quietly confident about =
<strong>Archduke Ferdinand=E2=80=99s</strong> chances on =
Sunday. <br>

<strong>9/4</strong> and also <strong>Opera Ballo</strong> at =
<strong>6/1</strong>. Both horses won easily giving members a great =
