Supporting organisations and people in transition

In a world where change happens at an ever increasing pace more, better, faster, fewer, higher quality, quicker response, better integrated, etc the critical factor is getting people on board with change, managing the disruptive effects and taking advantage of the creative possibilities that change presents. We describe this as managing transition.

As leaders you no doubt face the considerable challenges of leading your organisation through change.

What is your change agenda?

Are you focused on the organisation, system and process changes or on managing the people and cultural issues?

Where should you start?

How will you engage your people in the latest round of changes?

How will you ensure stability of present results as you change fundamentally?

How will you integrate improvements and generate synergy?

stephen quinn associates is a specialist consultancy that focuses on helping people in organisations to deal with the effects of change. We deal with the above questions every day.

Our approach is to work collaboratively with you to identify the right solutions to these and other issues. We have the depth of experience to support transformational change. We deliver results and leave you better equipped to work these issues yourself in future.

Our values/drivers
Satisfaction We deliver results, and over 80% of clients ask us back

Adding value Collaborative work is where we excel

Competent If we dont do it, we will tell you

Creating client independence Clients will grow their own capability to do what we do

Inclusion Recognising we cant be best at everything, we cultivate a diverse network

Change is exciting - We are energised by change and work best with others who are

Change and Transition

Change is external to us as individuals the new team, boss, organisation structure, subsidiary, parent company or whatever. It can happen quickly and is events paced. It does not guarantee that you or anybody else is on board with it.

Transition is an internal adjustment process that we all go through when we experience change. We all experience it differently and at our own pace.

We work with people to help them through this process of transition, to move to a new way of working.

Managing Transition has a double impact on the organisation and on individuals. The effect is to help clients manage the disruptive effects of change, capitalising on the creative opportunities that it presents. Employees are energised and more productive.

Wm Bridges Seminars Managing Transition
The key influencer on transition theory and practice is Bill Bridges. We are licensed to present his seminars and conduct consultancy work based on his Transition model.

Transition management complements the content or project management approach to change. The content approach seems to us, to be around planning events and processes but frequently neglects the human dimension and often disappoints. The change happens but the people are left behind, disaffected or merely survivors.

Transition management is therefore complementary to content driven initiatives. It focuses on developing a process that fosters employee commitment and builds necessary employee skills. It also deals with questions of organisational transformation aimed at turning todays high levels of change from a source of chaos to one that drives competitive advantage.

Transition Programmes include:

Negotiation
Many change initiatives are negotiated eg with employees or their representatives or in collaborative situations. We have particular experience in negotiated change and we support negotiators both in live projects and skills development. Tailored development workshops are a speciality.

A Partnership Approach to Employee Relations
Our philosophy is collaborative in all our work. We enjoy creating something new with clients and together we discover better and more lasting solutions. This translates across to our work in Employee Relations. Whether your organisation is unionised or not we can offer an approach that develops collaborative relationships with employees and their reps.

Facilitators
Clients dont expect prescriptive solutions to their challenges. These solutions dont impact and are devoid of ownership. Our strength is in working to support you finding your solutions. We find the most effective process for this is facilitative. We do much of our client work face to face with teams and groups, facilitating their problem solving, strategy search or change work.

We also train facilitators.

Teams
Collaborative team working can translate into real benefits, particularly in change situations. Our approach in working with teams is to combine team and organisational issues. This grounds team activity in the business context. We also try to make our work with teams energising, fun and action oriented. We can either train your leaders to develop teams or conduct team development work for you.

Coaching
Life in senior positions is lonely. We spend time with senior managers in organisations acting as a sounding board, reviewing performance issues, developing plans and talking about personal transition. We can also help to develop a coaching process that ensures a stream of management talent for succession planning.
