Plasma is an audiovisual artwork by Frederik De Wilde which explores the p=
henomenon of plasma (from Ancient Greek =CF=80=CE=BB=CE=AC=CF=83=CE=BC=CE=
=B1=2C meaning 'moldable substance)=2C one of the four fundamental states=
of matter=2C which was first described by chemist Irving Langmuir in the=
1920s. It consists of a gas of ions =E2=80=93 atoms which have some of th=
eir orbital electrons removed =E2=80=93 and free electrons. Neon signs and=
lightning are examples of partially ionized plasmas. The Earth's ionosphe=
re is a plasma and the magnetosphere contains plasma in the Earth's surrou=
nding space environment. The interior of the Sun is an example of fully io=
nized plasma=2C along with the solar corona and stars. Plasma may be the m=
ost abundant form of ordinary matter in the universe=2C although this hypo=
thesis is currently tentative based on the existence and unknown propertie=
s of dark matter. Plasma is mostly associated with stars=2C extending to t=
he rarefied intracluster medium and possibly the intergalactic regions.

:0;"><em>Plasma</em> is an audiovisual artwork by Frederik De Wilde which=
explores the phenomenon of plasma (from Ancient Greek =CF=80=CE=BB=CE=AC=
=CF=83=CE=BC=CE=B1=2C meaning 'moldable substance)=2C one of the four fund=
amental states of matter=2C which was first described by chemist Irving La=
ngmuir in the 1920s. It consists of a gas of ions =E2=80=93 atoms which ha=
ve some of their orbital electrons removed =E2=80=93 and free electrons. N=
eon signs and lightning are examples of partially ionized plasmas. The Ear=
th's ionosphere is a plasma and the magnetosphere contains plasma in the E=
arth's surrounding space environment. The interior of the Sun is an exampl=
e of fully ionized plasma=2C along with the solar corona and stars. Plasma=
may be the most abundant form of ordinary matter in the universe=2C altho=
ugh this hypothesis is currently tentative based on the existence and unkn=
own properties of dark matter. Plasma is mostly associated with stars=2C e=
xtending to the rarefied intracluster medium and possibly the intergalacti=
c regions.
