From 18 November 2025, new legal requirements will begin for all company di=
rectors and people with significant control (PSCs) to verify their identity=
under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency (ECCT) Act 2023.
The introduction of identity verification will reduce the risk of fraud and=
improve transparency.
Act now to make sure your company is ready.
What you need to do now

1. Prepare your personal identity documents =E2=80=93 have valid photo ID r=
eady, such as a passport or driving licence.
2. Choose how to verify =E2=80=93 either through the Verify your identity f=
or Companies House: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-co=
mpanies-house service or by using an Authorised Corporate Service Provider =
(ACSP): https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verifying-your-identity-for-companies-h=
ouse#ways-to-verify-your-identity.
To use the =E2=80=98Verify your identity for Companies House=E2=80=99 servi=
ce, you=E2=80=99ll need to sign in to GOV.=E2=80=8BUK One Login.
If you=E2=80=99re creating a GOV.=E2=80=8BUK One Login for the first time, =
use a personal email address that is not being used by anyone else. Shared =
or group email addresses, or an email address already used by someone else =
to create a GOV.=E2=80=8BUK One Login, will not work.
When using this service, if you=E2=80=99re asked for your address you shoul=
d use your home address.
3. Verify your identity and get your personal code =E2=80=93 you=E2=80=99ll=
need to include this code on your company=E2=80=99s next confirmation stat=
ement from 18 November 2025. Find out more about when to include your code,=

4. Check when your company=E2=80=99s confirmation statement is due: https:/=
/find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/ =E2=80=93 after 18 Nov=
ember all directors will need to include their personal codes on the compan=
y=E2=80=99s next confirmation statement. You will not be able to file the c=
ompany=E2=80=99s confirmation statement without this information.=20
If you do not comply with identity verification requirements on time, you m=
ay be committing an offence and may have to pay a financial penalty or fine=

Make sure all directors of your company are aware of this requirement so th=
at they have enough time to complete the process, avoid delays and stay com=

5. Check your personal information =E2=80=93 before you provide your person=
al code, make sure the details we hold on our records (such as your date of=
birth) match the details on the documents you used to verify your identity=
. If they do not match, you will not be able to link your verified identity=

If you=E2=80=99re both a director and a person with significant control (PS=
C) of the same company

You only need to verify your identity once, but you=E2=80=99ll need to prov=
ide your personal code separately for each role.
As a director, you=E2=80=99ll need to include the code in your company=E2=
=80=99s confirmation statement =E2=80=93 as explained previously.
As a PSC, you must use a separate online service to provide your personal c=
ode within 14 days of your company=E2=80=99s confirmation statement date. T=
his service will be available from 18 November 2025. PSCs will also be able=
to use the service to check their individual 14-day verification due date.
If you=E2=80=99re a PSC but not a director of the same company

You=E2=80=99ll need to provide your personal code within the first 14 days =
of your birth month. For example, if your date of birth is 22 January, your=
14 day period will begin on 1 January.=20
