00 points by Wine Advocate=2C Monica Larner. I think it should be noted th=
at this wine is already being compared to the great 1985 vintage that will=
keep for 100 years and UK retail price at =C2=A33200-3500 per bottle so t=
he 2016 vintage is a great buy.

TASTING NOTES
The 2016 Sassicaia is a wine of soaring achievement. I tasted this wine se=
veral times during the course of its creation in both barrel and bottle=2C=
and the highly deserved 100-point score you see here was enthusiastically=
assigned at the conclusion of a mini vertical in which I tasted and compa=
red the 2016 vintage against 2015 (which I scored 97 points). It makes per=
fect sense to present these two excellent vintages in back-to-back compari=
son fashion because they are two of the best to emerge from Bolgheri=2C an=
d indeed Tenuta San Guido=2C in recent memory. These are very similar vint=
ages with long=2C hot summer months that fueled a long growing season. The=
re was a bit more rain in 2016=2C and in analytical terms this vintage has=
a tad more acidity. However=2C the results in the glass are extraordinari=
ly different. The 2015 vintage is exuberant=2C round=2C succulent and imme=
diate=2C whereas the 2016 vintage shows pinpoint sharpness and precision (=
with similar grit and texture at the back). That acidity will
carry it long into the future as the wine completes its slow evolutionary=
course. This wine is chiseled and sharp with blackberry=2C ripe cherry=2C=
grilled herb and barbecue spice. The aromas flow from the glass in a cont=
inuous stream and are all marked by radiant intensity. The mouthfeel is lo=
ng and powerful. The crisp linearity of the wine's tannic backbone is perf=
ectly measured to the volume and depth of the fruit flavors. To my mind=2C=
the 2016 Sassicaia stands tall next to the epic 1985 vintage that set the=
ultimate benchmark for vino italiano.

"><span style=3D"font-size:14px">The 2016 Sassicaia is a wine of soaring a=
chievement. I tasted this wine several times during the course of its crea=
tion in both barrel and bottle=2C and the highly deserved 100-point score=
you see here was enthusiastically assigned at the conclusion of a mini ve=
rtical in which I tasted and compared the 2016 vintage against 2015 (which=
I scored 97 points). It makes perfect sense to present these two excellen=
t vintages in back-to-back comparison fashion because they are two of the=
best to emerge from Bolgheri=2C and indeed Tenuta San Guido=2C in recent=
memory. These are very similar vintages with long=2C hot summer months th=
at fueled a long growing season. There was a bit more rain in 2016=2C and=
in analytical terms this vintage has a tad more acidity. However=2C the r=
esults in the glass are extraordinarily different. The 2015 vintage is exu=
berant=2C round=2C succulent and immediate=2C whereas the 2016 vintage sho=
ws pinpoint sharpness and precision (with similar grit and texture at the=
back). That acidity will carry it long into the future as the wine comple=
tes its slow evolutionary course. This wine is chiseled and sharp with bla=
ckberry=2C ripe cherry=2C grilled herb and barbecue spice. The aromas flow=
from the glass in a continuous stream and are all marked by radiant inten=
sity. The mouthfeel is long and powerful. The crisp linearity of the wine'=
s tannic backbone is perfectly measured to the volume and depth of the fru=
it flavors. To my mind=2C the 2016 Sassicaia stands tall next to the epic=
1985 vintage that set the ultimate benchmark for vino italiano.<br>
