Good afternoon,
Château de Clotte 2019 is one of our favourite best-selling clarets. Not
only from a great, fruit-forward vintage, but from the Côtes de Castillon: a
wonderful, lesser-known appellation adjacent to, and sharing the same
limestone, clay, and gravel terroir as the plateau of Saint-Émilion. As
such, it offers remarkable quality at a very approachable £15.95 a bottle.
The 2019 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 10% Malbec,
showing lovely, rich berry fruit flavours with hints of spice, tobacco and
vanilla from its oak ageing. It is still youthful, and when opened an hour
beforehand, it blossoms beautifully in the glass. Utterly delicious now, it
promises at least another 5–7 years of sumptuous drinking pleasure.
