Hi Bob,
Was speaking to someone the other day who was under the impression that I’m
“against MPC’s” (marketing candidates out if you’re unfamiliar with the
term)...
First off…
I’ve never said MPC’s don’t work…
Pretty much everything “works” with enough demand and enough volume…
When I first entered the industry as a Recruiter it’s a strategy I used
often…
The problem I have with MPC’s (along with all other strategys) is over
reliance on them…
Recruiters who use it as their one strategy to open doors and then wonder
why they don’t have enough clients…
Frustrated because it leaves them ignored, blending it with every other
recruiter in the market and their ideal clients just seeing them as another
commodity that can be easily replaced…
What I have certainly said is that MPCs aren’t the best if you want to win
Retainers…
The whole basis of a retainer is that the client is Retaining your services
to do a Search of the market…
And why would someone pay you to do a search when you already have the
candidate they want?
And if the candidate you sent them doesn’t match the profile they want… Then
all you’ve done is demonstrated that you can’t match their needs (this is
why you get ignored most of the time when you do MPCs)...
Again… This isn’t me saying it won’t work or can’t be done… And if it’s a
strategy that is working for you now, by all means, keep doing it…
But what I am saying is that if you do MPCs the way most of the Recruitment
market does…. from day one, your positioning is backwards!
I do teach a strategy inside APEX called the “Retained MPC™”...
It allows you to open doors with prospects without having to do unpaid work
searching for candidates in the hope that your prospect is interested…
It stops you looking like every other Recruiter in the market doing MPC’s in
the same old way…
It doesn’t leave you ignored…
Doesn’t involve any extra work…
And doesn’t destroy your positioning when it comes to winning Retainers…
