Monthly Report - 27/03/26
Good evening=2C
As spring comes into life=2C the grass is greener=2C the feeling is good a=
nd the flat season has finally came round again!
We have had the quietest winter yet with only two runners on the all-weath=
er. Because of this we are going to have the busiest spring and summer on=
record=2C with six horses all set to be making their seasonal debuts with=
in the next few weeks. Our first runner of the season comes a week tomorro=
w at Musselburgh with Archduke Ferdinand taking his chances in the Scottis=
h Sprint Cup. The week after next looks very busy with multiple entries wi=
th Crocodile Power=2C Frio and Sir Bobby.
We had our first open day of the year last weekend at Seb Spencer=E2=80=99=
s yard. This was for owners in the Bated Breath colt=2C it was a lovely we=
ekend meeting a couple of owners in the local pub the night before a great=
day seeing the horses! More open days for our other horses will be announ=
ced very soon. They will be spread through the year=2C so you will have ev=
ery chance to visit!
The flat season starts tomorrow with The Lincoln meeting at Doncaster. The=
first heritage handicap of the season=2C 22 horses go to post for what wi=
ll be a cavalry charge to get the season off to an exciting note.
Make it snappy=E2=80=A6
Crocodile Power is set to make his seasonal re-appearance at Catterick on=
the 8th of April=2C a course we all know he loves. His work has been good=
approaching his return=2C however=2C as we=E2=80=99ve seen in the years g=
one by he will benefit for the run and will be much sharper on second star=
t. This is due to his size=2C he=E2=80=99s a big horse and it=E2=80=99s ne=
ar impossible to have him fully tuned for his return. We are expecting a g=
ood run but we will no doubt be seeing improvement in his second race.
He was unlucky not to win more than one race last year=2C he=E2=80=99s a h=
orse who needs the right conditions but we are hopeful we can match or bet=
ter his best year of three wins in a season!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
Frio is shaping up incredibly well=2C his work has been outstanding and we=
are ready to pull the trigger and show everyone what he=E2=80=99s made of=
=2E In the past couple of weeks he has been given some faster work=2C he has=
got a seriously high cruising speed and he has got a devastating turn of=
foot.
We have got provisional entries in the diary=2C the first one comes at Pon=
tefract on the 7th=2C Southwell on the 9th or Leicester on the 13th. It is=
n=E2=80=99t confirmed which one of these races we will go for=2C we have g=
ot the Group 3 Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot also in mind on May the 1st=
=2E
We have got very high targets for this horse=2C his work has backed that u=
p. If you=E2=80=99d like to be involved in a horse at the top level this y=
ear=2C Frio is the answer.

Our version of the Calcutta Cup
Archduke Ferdinand lines up in the =C2=A370=2C000 Scottish Sprint Cup a we=
ek tomorrow at Musselburgh (04/04/26). His work has been very good ahead o=
f his return=2C working to a mark in the high 80s / low 90s which has him=
right there on ratings to be running a big race on return.
In last year=E2=80=99s version of the race only 7 runners ran=2C meaning t=
his is a very good opportunity to pick some nice prize money up. It will b=
e great to have the colors on ITV Racing for one of Scotland=E2=80=99s pre=
mier meeting=E2=80=99s.
We are happy to announce Archduke Ferdinand is now SOLD OUT ahead of his s=
easonal debut.
Living the Dream in retirement
Desert Dream is loving life in retirement=2C he is currently at Cottam Gra=
nge being turned out every day before coming in for his evening meal. He i=
s a horse who has zero vices about him=2C he is kind through and through a=
nd is willing to do anything we ask him. The longevity of his bloodline is=
there for all to see=2C his sire=2C the legendary Oasis Dream is still op=
erating at the grand age of 26! Desert Dream will continue to be with us a=
t Cottam Grange until we find him a five-star forever home in the spring=
=2C he will be the best riding horse anybody could ever ask for=2C it woul=
d be a lovely story if one of his owners would take him.
The big horse
Things haven=E2=80=99t quite worked out as we=E2=80=99d hoped with Wotalaa=
d=2C as he=E2=80=99s proving a bit of a difficult one to keep fully sound.
We=E2=80=99re getting to the point now where we need to step back=2C look=
at where we are with him=2C and decide on the best way forward. As always=
=2C his wellbeing is the absolute priority=2C the last thing we want to do=
is overdo things and risk causing a setback.
In himself=2C he=E2=80=99s happy and content=2C and true to form he never=
leaves a crumb in his feed bowl. He=E2=80=99s a kind=2C genuine horse who=
always tries his best to please.
We=E2=80=99ll be having a chat as a team over the coming days and will mak=
e a decision on what=E2=80=99s next for him before the end of next week.
Our homebred filly is 3 next week!
Miss Unexpected will turn 3 years old next week=2C it feels like yesterday=
when she was unexpectedly born. Read her story on the website of how she=
was a miracle horse!
Declan Carroll is very happy with Miss Unexpected. I spoke to him earlier=
today and this is what he had to say.
=E2=80=9CI=E2=80=99m delighted with the filly=2C since she=E2=80=99s been=
in work she looks like a different horse=2C we=E2=80=99ve not fully asked=
her the question yet but what we have asked her she=E2=80=99s answered we=
ll. She=E2=80=99s a great mover and I think she=E2=80=99ll give you guys p=
lenty of fun this year=E2=80=9D
I went on to ask Declan when he thinks she=E2=80=99ll be making her debut.
=E2=80=9CIt=E2=80=99s very hard to say at this moment as we haven=E2=80=99=
t asked her=2C I=E2=80=99d like to say towards the end of the spring. I ha=
ven=E2=80=99t and don=E2=80=99t want to rush her=2C she=E2=80=99s not the=
type to take being rushed very well=E2=80=9D
Overall=2C a positive report on Miss Unexpected=2C she=E2=80=99s working w=
ell and is likely to be making her debut towards the end of the spring for=
a busy summer.

Our first Emporium 100 horse=2C The Bated Breath Colt will soon be named=
=2C his owners have put through their suggestions and we will have it sort=
ed in the next couple of weeks!
Our open day for him went down really well=2C we had a fantastic bunch of=
owners come see all of the horses as-well as showing Seb=E2=80=99s world=
class facilities.
He is doing really well in his work and seems to have really grown up as a=
horse in recent times=2C we are excited to see what this spring has in st=
ore for him!
Round up of what=E2=80=99s happening this spring
We have got a seriously busy April coming up with plenty of our horses set=
to race. It=E2=80=99s also a very exciting time of the year where we may=
see potential improvements coming through.
I personally think this year will be our best year yet=2C we have got the=
best bunch of horses we have ever had. The vibes out of the yard are fant=
astic as everything just seems to be bouncing!
I=E2=80=99m excited for our first runner of the year next week at Musselbu=
rgh=2C hopefully we can get things off to a flyer!
Yard visit dates will be available within the next week once the new booki=
ng system is set in place. The first one last weekend went down really wel=
l and now we have a feel of how things will work going forward.

best bunch of horses we have ever had. The vibes out of the yard are fant=
astic as everything just seems to be bouncing! <br>

I=E2=80=99m excited for our first runner of the year next week at Musselbu=
rgh=2C hopefully we can get things off to a flyer! <br>

Yard visit dates will be available within the next week once the new booki=
ng system is set in place. The first one last weekend went down really wel=
l and now we have a feel of how things will work going forward.<br>
