Weekend travel information
Dear Mr Home,
If you’re travelling into or around the city this bank holiday weekend, then
there are a number of big events taking place, including Notting Hill
Carnival. If you are heading to one of these, or just enjoying London, there
are plenty of ways to get where you’re going. Planned closures have been
kept to a minimum but some stations and services will be particularly busy.

Notting Hill Carnival
Notting Hill Carnival returns for the August Bank Holiday, with more than
two million people expected to visit west London over the course of the
weekend. Extensive road closures and planned bus diversions will be
implemented from Saturday 24 until Tuesday 27 August.
For the easiest and least crowded journey, take London Underground or
Elizabeth line services to Paddington station. From here, Notting Hill
Carnival is a short walk away. At Paddington station there is step-free
access to the Elizabeth line, as well as the Bakerloo, Hammersmith & City
and Circle lines, where you can follow a signed walking route to the
carnival.

London Underground
Piccadilly line
Saturday 24 August until Sunday 1 September
Planned works and closures on the Piccadilly line to prepare for new trains
During this time there will be no service between Wood Green and
Cockfosters.
If you are travelling from central London to stations from Wood Green to
Cockfosters, you should use the Piccadilly line to connect with rail
replacement buses at Wood Green.
If you are travelling to Arnos Grove or Bounds Green, you can also use Great
Northern services to New Southgate to connect with rail replacement buses to
adjacent stations.
Instead of the Night Tube you can use Night Bus route N91.
Piccadilly line services will not run between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge
during this closure. You should use the Metropolitan line instead.
A normal service will resume on Monday 2 September.

London Overground
Saturday 24 until Monday 26 August
No service between Sydenham and Crystal Palace
Use local buses between Anerley and Crystal Palace. Services between New
Cross Gate and Sydenham will be reduced to four trains per hour - trains
will run every 15 minutes all day. This is due to Network Rail track work.
Saturday 24 August until Sunday 1 September
No Southern services through Crystal Palace
During this time there will be major changes to Southern Railways services
in the Crystal Palace area and some stations will have no train service.
This is due to Network Rail engineering work.
Tickets will be accepted on TfL services, including London Overground and
existing local bus routes. Please check for more information on the Southern

Reduced service between Euston and Kilburn High Road from 07:15 until 21:15
(northbound) and from 06:30 until 20:30 (southbound)
Trains will be reduced to three per hour. This is due to HS2 works.
Sunday 25 August
No northbound service between Dalston Junction and Highbury & Islington
after 23:45
The 23:03 train from West Croydon and the 23:19 train from Crystal Palace
will both terminate at Dalston Junction at 23:47 and 23:55. For onward
travel to Canonbury and Dalston Junction, use local bus route 30 or Night
Bus route N277. The last through train from Dalston Junction to Highbury &
Islington is at 23:32. This is due to maintenance work.

Use local bus route 30 between Highbury & Islington, Canonbury and Dalston
Junction until this time. The first through trains from each station will be
at 06:17. This is due to maintenance work.
Tuesday 27 until Thursday 29 August
No westbound service between Camden Road and Willesden Junction after 23:45
The 23:59 and 00:15 services from Stratford will terminate at Camden Road.
Use Tube or London Overground services or local bus routes. This is due to
maintenance work.
Tuesday 27 until Friday 30 August
No southbound service between Willesden Junction and Shepherd's Bush until
06:15
The 05:51 from Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction will start from
Shepherd's Bush at 06:00. The 06:08 from Willesden Junction to Clapham
Junction will not run. Use local bus routes 220 or 228. The first through
train from Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction will be at 06:23. This is
due to maintenance work.
DLR
Until Sunday 25 August
Reduced service on the DLR
A reduced timetable will operate on all DLR routes. Trains will run less
frequently and at different times. Journeys may take longer than usual.
Buses and roads
Bus journeys will be affected by the following changes this weekend. We
expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop
short of their normal destination.
Thursday 22 August
O2 Arena
From 18:30 until 23:30, the O2 Arena will host Noah Kahan in concert. Large
crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the event.
Thursday 22 until Tuesday 27 August
Whitechapel High Street
From 22:00 on Thursday 22 until 05:00 Tuesday 27 August, there will be
westbound lane restrictions in place on Whitechapel High Street between the
junctions with the A13 Commercial Road and Leman Street, with temporary
traffic signals on all approaches. This is due to Cadent Gas works.
During these works, the westbound cycleway will also be suspended between
the A13 Commercial Road and Leman Street.

A406 North Circular Road eastbound
Until 15:00 tomorrow, Friday 23 August, one of three lanes is closed
eastbound at the junction of Brook Mews. This is due to Thames Water works.
Friday 23 until Sunday 25 August
Victoria Park
From 14:00 until 23:30 each day, the All Points East music festival is
taking place in Victoria Park. Large crowds are expected.
Friday 23 until Monday 26 August
A10 Bishopsgate
From 19:00 on Friday 23 until 05:00 on Monday 26 August, there will be
temporary traffic signals, with a full closure of Threadneedle Street, plus
width restriction on Bishopsgate, by St Helens Place. This is due to Thames
Water works.
Friday 23 until Thursday 29 August
A20 Sidcup Bypass
From 22:00 on Friday 23 until 05:00 on Tuesday 27 August, the road will be
closed eastbound towards Kent between the Frognals Corner junction with the
A222 and J3 of the M25. The slip road between Frognals Corner and the A224
will remain open. One lane will also be closed westbound towards London.
From 22:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday 27 August and Wednesday 28 August the road
will be closed westbound. Eastbound traffic will not be affected. Please
plan ahead

From 14:00 until 23:30, the All Points East music festival is taking place
in Victoria Park. Large crowds are expected.
Saturday 24 August
Docklands
From 10:00 until 19:00, the London Summer Walk charity event is taking
place, starting and finishing at Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, in a
25km loop crossing both sides of the river through the docklands area. Large
crowds are expected.
Notting Hill
From 11:00 until 23:30, the UK National Panorama Steel Band competition is
taking place at Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park, Kensal Road, as part of
Notting Hill Carnival. Large crowds are expected.
Southwark
From 11:30 until 22:30, RALLY music festival is taking place in Southwark
Park. Large crowds are expected.
Sunday 25 and Monday 26 August
Notting Hill/West London
Notting Hill Carnival takes place over the August Bank Holiday, with two
million people expected to visit west London over the course of the weekend.

From 07:00 until 18:30, the Hussaini Association March is taking place from
Marble Arch to Paddington Green, via Edgware Road. Large crowds and
increased traffic levels are expected.
Southwark
From 11:30 until 22:30, the Body Movements music event is taking place in
Southwark Park. Large crowds are expected.
Kensington
From 13:00 until 18:00, an anti-Iranian government protest will be held
outside the Iranian Embassy, Prince's Gate. Large crowds are expected.
Hyde Park
From 13:00 until 17:00 a Stand Up for Women demonstration will be taking
place at Speakers Corner.
Wembley
From 16:00 until 23:00, an All Elite Wrestling event is taking place at
Wembley Stadium. Large crowds are expected.
Until Wednesday 28 August
Whitehall
There will be two separate directional closures of Whitehall for works by
Westminster City Council.
Work will take place Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, and Saturdays
between 08:00 and 13:00, starting on the southbound carriageway from the
junction with Trafalgar Square, before moving to northbound from Wednesday
14 August, from the junction with Great Scotland Yard.
While the closures are in place, all traffic including some bus services
will be on diversion. Follow the official diversion routes, check before you
travel

will be some changes to the road layout. Allow more time for your journey
and check before you travel
