This is an official email from Companies House, sent to all registered email
addresses. The information in this email is relevant to all companies
registered in the UK. If you’re a third-party agent who has received this
email on behalf of a company, please forward this message to the company
director(s) of all companies you work with.
_____
From 18 November 2025, if you’re a company director or a person with
significant control (PSC), you must verify your identity by your due date.
The Companies House register
<https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-a-company> will be updated on 18
November 2025 to show the due dates for each role you hold.
What you need to do
Identity verification is a 2-step process:
1. Verify your identity and get your Companies House personal code.
2. Provide your personal code to confirm you are verified for each role you
hold.
Watch our understanding identity verification video
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0qU_y1WUT0> and read our guidance for
more information on when you need to verify and provide your personal code
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/when-you-need-to-verify-your-identity-for-companies-house>
.
If you’ve already verified your identity for Companies House, you do not
need to do it again but you will need to provide us with your personal code
for each role you hold.
_____
How to verify your identity
There are 2 ways to verify your identity for Companies House
1. Using the ‘Verify your identity for Companies House
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-companies-house> ’
service
This service uses GOV.UK One Login to verify your identity.
GOV.UK One Login will ask you a few simple questions to work out the best
way for you to verify your identity online. The options available may depend
on your device, whether you have photo ID, and the type of ID you have.
Find out more about proving your identity with GOV.UK One Login
<https://www.gov.uk/using-your-gov-uk-one-login/proving-your-identity> .
2. Using an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)
You can ask an ACSP to verify your identity on your behalf – for example, an
accountant or solicitor. Find out more about ACSPs
<https://identity.company-information.service.gov.uk/identity-verification/verifying-with-authorised-corporate-service-provider>
.
When an agent has agreed to verify your identity, you’ll need to give them
documents from an approved list as evidence of your identity. They may
charge a fee for their services.
_____
Filing your next confirmation statement after 18 November
You will not be able to file your company’s confirmation statement after 18
November unless all directors have verified their identity.
You must include the personal code of every company director in the
confirmation statement. Your filing will be rejected if you do not include
this information.
If someone else files the confirmation statement for your company, all
directors must share their personal code with them.
Find out more about your Companies House personal code
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/companies-house-personal-codes-for-identity-verification>
and where to find it.
_____
Why this matters for you and your business
Economic crime costs the UK billions each year and creates unfair
competition for legitimate businesses like yours. Identity verification
protects honest business owners from being impersonated by criminals and
creates a cleaner, more trustworthy business environment.
For most people, verification takes just a few minutes and only needs to be
done once.
_____
Consequences of not verifying your identity
Any director who continues to act without verifying their identity will be
committing an offence. The company is also committing an offence if they
fail to rectify this.
If you do not comply with the verification requirements
<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verifying-your-identity-for-companies-house#what-happens-if-you-do-not-verify>
, Companies House may take enforcement action. This may include prosecution
and financial penalties for the company and its directors.
The company and its directors may also be committing an offence for failing
to file a confirmation statement.
_____
Please forward this message to any company directors or PSCs who need to
verify their identity.
Identity verification requirements for limited partnerships, corporate
directors of companies, corporate members of limited liability partnerships
(LLPs), and officers of corporate PSCs, will be introduced at a later date.
