Our shipment of the new 2024 vintage of Mâcon-Lugny 'Les Genièvres' arrives 
next week, and is a perfect case in point; this delicious white Burgundy is 
an excellent buy from just £17.45/bottle with our launch case offers and 
it's a wine that has caught the eye of The Spectator's wine critic Jonathan 
Ray on more than one occasion. (I've included his jottings below)

The Talmard family have spread their winemaking genius across a good swathe 
of the Mâconnais, their Macon Uchicy is a regular best seller for 
FromVineyardsDirect, and the 'house white' of many I suspect, and I can 
assure you that this offering from their vineyards in the village of Lugny 
is every bit as delicious (perhaps even more so).

The 2024 vintage is showing brilliantly now, typically released ~12 months 
behind the exceptionally popular Mâcon-Uchizy, and that just affords it a 
little more time to settle and balance that lovely medley of ripe exotic 
stone fruit, orchard fruit, citrus zip, with a delicate texture to the 
palate also courtesy of extended aging on lees. There no use of oak barrels 
here, ensuring that purity of fruit is front and centre.

It's a wonderfully elegant, textured expression of Burgundian chardonnay, 
that surely no wine enthusiast can resist, and at under £18 a bottle nor 
should they try to.

My tasting notes are below, add this to your cellar without hesitation, it 
can always be relied upon to deliver exceptional drinking pleasure.

My Notes | June 2026

A lovely hint of silvery gold greets you upon pouring, and a gentle swish 
sends aromas of exotic stone fruit, citrus and orchard fruit leaping eagerly 
from the glass.

The palate is fresh and zippy and that exotic stone fruit evident in the 
aromas, is the first to emerge, ripe peach, citrus and melon all in 
attendance, progressing to a fresh but textured, dry finish that holds for a 
good time, with an almost creamy feel that's punctuated by a racey zip.

It's a brilliant glass of chardonnay, one that's ready to enjoy right now, 
and will continue to give much drinking pleasure over the coming 18+ months.

Another indisputable midweek essential, but one that will equally hold its 
own alongside fine dining.

Uchizy - a more expressive, fruit-forward style perhaps, with a

Mâcon-Lugny from other, larger, producers but Talmards is, to our mind, a 
massive step-up. This is a hugely impressive Burgundy, and a very fine
