- 20 x 6 Bottle Wooden Cases Available -

  <https://email.fromvineyardsdirect.com/files/amf_mrwheeler_wine/project_110/Grey_Horizontalk_Rule_Thin.jpg>

Good morning,

The perfect welcome to the office... "can you go and taste through those
clarets James?" Especially when the line up includes absolute gems such as
the 2016 Château Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Medoc, which is showing beautifully.

And having tasted it and seen the price (£210/case of 6 bottle in wooden
case), when the question came, "how much should we take, we can have 20 x 6
bottle wooden cases", my answer was an instant "all of it, and find some
more!". This beautifully structured red, with ripe dark-berry fruit, velvety
smooth charm and incredible staying power, with a seam of maturity, has
'fine dining' written all over it.

Château Poujeaux sits under the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, and has an
incredible winemaking history dating back to the 16th century. The region
was known for its grain production back in roman times, and it was the
numerous grain mills situated in the area that gave rise to the 'Moulis'
name.

Château Poujeaux has been owned and managed by Philippe Cuvelier (also
owner of Clos Fourtet) since 2008, and during his tenure the focus has been
very much on making the finest wines using a very traditional approach. This
involves minimal vineyard intervention, sustainable vineyard practices,
aging the wines in fine French oak barrels with then a further rest in the
cellars prior to release.

2016 is proving again and again to be a fantastic vintage for Bordeaux, and
after a near decade since harvest top examples such as this Château Poujeaux
are drinking beautifully, with those lovely complex, seductive tertiary
nuances, just starting to creep in.

The cuvée consisting of ~50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 5% cabernet
franc and 5% petit verdot, it has been my absolute pleasure to taste, and to
jot down my subsequent musings to share with you (hopefully not too
rambling).

I do hope I can tempt you into a case, but fair warning we only have 20 x 6
bottle wooden cases available.

My Notes | Tasted Wednesday

A lovely dark core with vibrant mahogany brim greets you upon pouring, with
a real sense of clarity and purity when you swish the glass. This wine even
looks fine, elegant and classy.

Onto the aromatics... blackcurrant coulis, a hint of mint leaf and dried
herb initially, with very subtle leather, woodsmoke and cinders, and then
the sweet dark forest fruits return.

The palate, and ooooh the structure is so exciting! The fine grained tannins
are felt across the entire palate, it's like the wine's cleansing your
palate to ensure that you're ready for the complex medley of fruit spice and
tertiary flavours to follow.

And follow they do, the grip swiftly exits stage left and a swathe of dark
forest fruit enters the frame, darker currant to start, hints of red cherry,
subtle mint leaf, dare I even say fig? with a prickly, smokey spice. Breathe
out gently and savour the flavours as the sweet fruit veneer is joined by a
gently earthy rusticity, leather, spice and a fine, warming oak veil.

The finish, well it doesn't appear to finish so far as I can tell, I've
stretched it as long as I can between tastes but every post taste breath
reveals further dark berry fruit, and woody warmth. just delicious.

This is pure class, drinking beautifully right now, and while I'm sure
there's further development to come, why, or how could you ever wait to
discover it is beyond me.

13.5% ABV | Drink now, now, now! (or hold to 2030+)

(I really like this wine, can you tell? and no, the finish still isn't in
sight!)
