Workplace policies are often where legal risk crystallises. Areas such as 
discrimination, harassment, data protection, social media use, mental 
well-being and health and safety are subject to frequent legal and societal 
change.




Up‑to‑date policies help employers and employees to:

*	Demonstrate that they take legal obligations seriously
*	Set clear behavioural expectations
*	Rely on statutory defences, for example in discrimination or harassment 
claims




For instance, having a clear, current anti‑harassment policy supported by 
training can be critical in limiting liability if an employee brings a 
claim. Similarly, data protection and monitoring policies should reflect how 
technology is actually used in the workplace.
