Thanks for your message.

The Yamaha APX600 sounds like a great choice to get your Grandson 
playing. We do check over all our guitars before despatch and make sure 
we're happy. They come with a factory set up which is a reasonable 
action but obviously this is personal preference. In our opinion these 
models do have a lower action compared to others we stock at a similar 
price point. Hopefully this helps :)
