Hi there,
For many years, the “two-year rule” has given UK employers a degree of protection, allowing time to assess new employees without the risk of an ordinary unfair dismissal claim. From 1 January 2027, that protection is set to disappear.
At the same time, compensation limits are being removed and the time employees have to bring a claim is expected to increase. Together, these changes mean the potential cost of a bad hire or a simple procedural mistake could be significantly higher than before.
