Adapt or Die:
Knowing what it takes to be a high performing team in a changing complex world
“The work of Kurt Lewin, Ronald Lippitt, Rensis Likert, Robert Blake, Edgar Schein and Chris Argyris, amongst many others, has resulted in groups being seen as the key focus of behavioural science interventions to enhance organisational effectiveness. From the perspective of organisation development, groups are seen as the “building blocks of organisations” and thus developing effective groups within is a key step to the development of effective organizations.” Paul Dobson, Senior Lecturer in Organisational Behaviour, Deputy Director Centre for Leadership, Learning & Change Cass Business School, London.
During challenging times, weak teamwork becomes easily stressed and can deteriorate. At times like this there is no doubt that organisations must work hard to get what they need to deliver. There is an increasing pressure on teams to deliver key business results in challenging times, otherwise the repercussions could be far reaching and in some circumstances fatal to the team and the organisation itself. How do teams deliver results, when resources and conditions have never been so challenging? What makes a team effective? The CIPD North West conference on the 17th June will provide an interactive and participative opportunity to provide insight, research findings, organisational case studies and debate around what makes an effective team.
Prominent organisations will provide an insight into how team effectiveness has enabled them to meet the challenges that they’ve been faced with and how it’s provided a competitive advantage.
• Joan O’Connor (Cedar Talent Management) will also provide the findings and a case study of a piece of action research with organisations, conducted by Cedar Talent Management and the CASS Business School on the factors that lead to high performing teams.
• Dr Mark Batey (Manchester Business School) and Simon Davies (ex-marketing Director of Molson Coors) will explore the research and practice behind building creative teams.
• Liz Chandler (Head of Learning and Transformation, MerseyTravel) will be discussing their approach to team dynamics.
• Dr Paul Evans (Group Technical Director, PZ Cussons) will be discussing the Development of International networks within PZ Cussons.
• Margaret Cheshire (Head of People and Organisational Development at Bentley Motors) will describe the approach that they take to developing teamwork.
As always, a motivational speaker will end what promises to be an interesting and stimulating day.
This event is sponsored by the Savile Group, which incorporates Cedar Talent Management, Fairplace and IDDAS: www.savile.com
