The 2012 Olympics coming to London is obviously a huge boost for the UK but the magnitude of these events could have a major knock-on effect for conference organisers as many venues can offer little conference or accommodation availability both before and during the games. This doesn’t just apply in London, as other locations around the country are also affected. Then there is Wimbledon, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee holiday and adjoining May bank holiday and school summer vacation to consider. Picking a mid-2012 date to run a conference could be a tricky job if hoping for availability and maximum delegate attendance.

As conference organisers take this on board and plan their events around these busy periods pulling back into May or moving into late September this will in turn make these periods become prime selling dates for venues. As lead booking time is generaly short these days, the further we move into 2012, the more difficult it could be to find availability at the right venue for the best price.

Of course, by booking early, organisers have the opportunity to get in first at the venue and location that suits them and shop around for a price to match the budget. As the old saying goes … “the early bird catches the worm”.
